EasyTAK help
This file is the single source of answers. The help page on the site and the assistant both read it, so they can never
disagree. Written for someone who has never run a server. Plain words, exact screen names.
What EasyTAK is
Your team's own private map. Everyone on it sees everyone else, live, in the TAK apps they already use (ATAK on Android,
iTAK on iPhone, WinTAK on Windows). You add people by name on your server page, each person gets a link, they tap it on
their phone, and they are on the map. We run the server, the backups and the encryption. You run your team.
EasyTAK is built and run by Gridbase (Intel Strategies LLC, White Settlement, Texas). It is not affiliated with the TAK
Product Center or any government. ATAK, iTAK and WinTAK are made by others; we run the server they connect to.
What it costs
| Plan | Price | Included |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation | $39 a month | 10 people. The shared map: positions, chat, markers, files. |
| Foundation Plus | $59 a month | 10 people. Everything in Foundation, plus encrypted voice and encrypted video streaming. |
| Enterprise | by request | Custom builds for law enforcement, agencies and elite teams. Tell us about your team at easytak.us/enterprise. |
More than 10 people: $3.99 per person per month, no limit. It is automatic: when you add the 11th person on your server
page, the page tells you first ("Adding Bob makes 11 people. That adds a seat at $3.99 a month, billed today for the
rest of this month"). You confirm, the person is added, and the share of this month is charged that day. From the next
month it is part of your regular bill. Example: 12 people on Foundation is $39 + 2 × $3.99 = $46.98 a month.
Removing a person frees their seat. The lower price shows on your next bill; there are no partial refunds for the
current month. Nobody is ever cut off for having too many people.
Texas sales tax is added for Texas customers. Billed monthly by card through our payment processor. Cancel any time from
Billing on your account page.
Ordering
- Go to EasyTAK. Type a name for your server. It becomes name.easytak.us. Letters, digits and hyphens only.
- Pick Foundation or Foundation Plus, enter your email, pick the region closest to your team.
- Continue to payment. Our payment processor takes the card. We never see card numbers.
- You get two emails: "being built" (with your Advanced settings password, keep it) and about ten minutes later "ready", with the link to your server page.
Signing in
There is no password. Two ways in:
- Email link. On easytak.us/login, enter the email you ordered with. We send a link. Open it on the device you are using; you are signed in for 30 days. Use this the first time and any time a passkey is not available.
- Passkey. After you are signed in, on your account page add a passkey. Next time, "Sign in with a passkey" uses Face ID, Touch ID or Windows Hello. No email needed.
If the email does not arrive: check spam, wait a minute (we only send one link a minute), and make sure it is the email
you ordered with. If you lost that email address and your recovery codes, we cannot reset your account over the phone,
by chat, or by support ticket. That is on purpose: a server full of your team's positions must not be takeable by a
good story. Reply from the billing email on file and we will verify the card; it takes 72 hours.
Recovery codes
On your account page, generate recovery codes. You get eight. Each works once, in place of an email link or passkey.
Write them down somewhere safe. They are shown one time only.
Connecting a phone (the part people get stuck on)
Three steps, in this order, on your server page.
Step 1. Install the app on the phone first. Android: ATAK-CIV from Google Play. iPhone or iPad: iTAK from the App
Store (TAK Aware also works). Windows: WinTAK from tak.gov. Nothing in Step 2 or 3 works until the app is installed.
Step 2. On your server page, pick who the phone is for from the People list. If the person is not in the list yet, add
them under People first. Press "Get the connection link". The page asks your server for a link; that takes up to a
minute because the server checks in every 60 seconds.
Step 3. Connect. If you are reading your server page on the phone that should connect, tap "Open in ATAK / iTAK". The
app opens and connects. If you are reading it on a computer or a different phone, scan the code on the screen with the
TAK app: ATAK: Settings, Network Preferences, TAK Servers, the scan icon. iTAK: Servers, the plus button, Scan.
The link works 5 times for 7 days. Leave the app's connection settings as they are; there is nothing to import. If the
app asks for a username and password, use the ones you gave that person.
Nothing happened when I tapped the button
The app is not installed (go back to Step 1), or it is open in the background: close it fully, tap again. On iPhone,
if nothing opens, press "Copy the link instead", open Safari, paste the link in the address bar, press Go, then
choose Open in iTAK or TAK Aware.
The app says "connection failed" or shows the server in red
Usually one of: the username or password typed wrong (passwords are case sensitive); the link expired (7 days) or was
used 5 times (make a new one); the phone has no internet. Your server page shows a notice if several devices failed to
connect in the last hour.
I want to connect from Windows (WinTAK) or without a link
In WinTAK add a server with the address name.easytak.us and the encrypted connection type, then choose "enroll for a
certificate" and enter the person's username and password. Nothing needs to be imported. If you are not sure which
fields to fill, ask the assistant; it will give you the exact values for your server.
People and seats
Everyone who should see the map gets their own person on your server page, under People. Enter a username (first name
is fine) and pick User or Administrator. The password is shown once; send it to the person with their link. Removing a
person removes their access and their device drops off the map. You cannot remove your own administrator account.
Your plan includes 10 people. Your own account counts as one; our maintenance login does not. From the 11th person on,
each costs $3.99 a month, added automatically with a warning first (see What it costs).
Switching plans
Account page, Billing, switch between Foundation and Foundation Plus. Moving up: encrypted voice and video are on your
server within a minute and you are charged the difference for the rest of the month. Moving down turns them off at the
same moment. Extra people stay as they are.
Growing teams
At 40 people, and again at 120, we move your server to a bigger machine. We email you the day before; it happens
overnight (between 3 and 5 AM Central) and takes about two minutes, during which the map is offline. No change to your
bill, no action on your side.
Your server's status
Your server page shows: Active (normal), Being built (first ten minutes), Payment failed (fix the card within 7 days),
Paused (not paid for 7 days; the map stops, your data is kept), Scheduled for deletion (14 days after pausing or
cancelling; export first if you want your data). "Has not checked in for a few minutes" means we lost contact with
your server; it usually recovers on its own and we have been paged.
Billing
Account page, Billing: update the card, switch plans, see invoices, cancel. Cancelling keeps the server running to the
end of the paid month, then it is deleted 14 days later unless you export your data. We do not refund partial months.
A chargeback pauses the server immediately. Extra people show on invoices as "extra person × N".
If the card is declined for an extra person, nothing stops; we email you and the next regular bill will try again.
Backups and export
We copy your server every night: encryption keys, people, uploaded files, voice settings. Copies are kept 7 days. "Export
my data" on your server page gives you a plain copy of all of it, as a one-hour download link. The map traffic itself is
not stored.
Voice and video (Foundation Plus)
Setting up voice (push-to-talk for the whole team)
Every person does this once on their own phone. It takes about two minutes.
- Install a voice app. On Android, get **Mumla** (free) from Google Play. On iPhone or iPad, get **Mumble** (free) from the App Store. Both apps work the same way.
- Open the app and add a new server. Type in the exact details shown on your server page: - Address: your server address (it looks like yourname.easytak.us). - Port: the number shown next to the address on your server page. - Username: the same sign-in name you gave that person when you added them to the map. - Password: the same password you gave them.
- Tap the server to connect. Then hold the big button to talk, and let go to listen. That is the whole thing.
If the app will not connect, the usual cause is a typo in the username or password, or the person has not been added to
your map yet. Add them on your server page first, then try again. Still stuck? Ask the assistant on your server page
(bottom-right); it has the exact address, port, and steps for your server and will walk the person through it.
Setting up video
Send a camera or drone feed to your server, then watch it in ATAK under Video. The stream addresses are on your server
page under "Show stream addresses". Fair use is 1 TB of video a month. Not sure how to point a camera at it? Ask the
assistant on your server page and it will walk you through your specific camera or drone.
Handing the server to someone else
Server page, Ownership: enter their email. They get a link, sign in with that email, accept. The server moves to their
account. Your card keeps paying until they take over billing on their own account page. You can cancel a pending
transfer until they accept.
Enterprise
For law enforcement, agencies, and large or elite teams: custom builds, dedicated capacity, more people, your own rules.
Tell us about your team at easytak.us/enterprise (who you are, how many people, what for, how to reach you). A person
reads every request and replies by email, usually within a business day. Foundation Plus is enough for most teams
under 50 people.
Security and what we never do
Every server is its own machine with its own encryption keys. Connections are encrypted. Backups are encrypted before
they leave your server. We never read your map, chat or video; we only see health reports. We do not claim CJIS, SOC 2
or FedRAMP compliance; do not put anything export-controlled, classified or CUI on this service. We do not reset
accounts over support, ever.
Getting help
The assistant on every page answers from this document and can see your server's status when you are signed in. If it
cannot help, it opens a ticket and a person replies by email. We are a small company: best effort, no guaranteed
response time.
